28.12.2005 Eighth round summary

Konstantin Sakaev

Sergey Rublevsky won an excellent game - bravo, great technique! Evgeny Bareev bravely agreed to get under a bayonet attack against Alexey Dreev, but was defeated. Unfortunately, after a bright start, Peter Svidler started to play rather indifferently, this time it was Vadim Zvjaginsev who lured him to a peaceful haven. Vadim used one more original but strategically risky idea.

Nothing special happened in the game Kramnik-Morozevich. Vladimir had some pressure, but rated his advantage too unsignificant and offered a draw. Unfortunately, unmotivated Khalifman offered a draw to Tomashavsky, having outplayed the young player in a preceding play. Having seized the initiative from the opening, Alexander Motylev achieved his first win in the tournament, sending Sergey Volkov to the last place. Sergey has a chance to leave it, but he needs to beat Evgeny Tomashevsky in the 9th round. Decisive rounds are still ahead!
