Grandmasters started the women's championship of the city with a "long castling" - Irina Sudakova lost to Nina Sirotkina, Ekaterina Korbut lost to Varvara Kirillova, and Olga Stiazhkina was defeated by Tatiana Molchanova. In the first round Anand as Black defeated Bacrot, Svidler-Topalov and Ponomariov-Kamsky ended in draws. Today in the second round meet SVIDLER-PONOMARIOV, KAMSKY-BACROT and TOPALOV-ANAND. 10.05.2006 MOSCOW IS DEFEATED, PETERSBURG WINS 46-34
The match Moscow-Petersburg, which took place in the All-Russian Exhibition Center, unexpectedly ended in a crushing defeat of the host team. Thus, St. Petersburg achieved the 8th win in 21 matches (Moscow has 10 wins, and 3 matches were drawn). Curiously, our city representatives' previous win is dated by December 1960, when Leningrad defeated Moscow 40.5-39.5. 46 years later St. Petersburg scored 46 points versus 34 of the host team. On the second day of the match St. Petersburg men won 13-7 (24.5-15.5 total), women drew 2.5-2.5 (5.5-4.5), veterans lost 1.5-3.5 (3.5-6.5), boys won 4-1 (7.5-2.5) and girls drew 2.5-2.5 (5.5-4.5). Moscow IM Anatoly Bykhovsky participates in the matches wince 1958. Grandmaster Igor Zaitsev and Petersburg Master Vladimir Dommes played for the first time in January, 1960, when Vladimir Mikhailovich took the upper hand, 2-0.
