MOSCOW-PETERSBURG MATCH
The 21st friendly match between Moscow and St.Petersburg teams begins on May 6. The first match took place in 1911, and exactly on May 6, 2006 there is a 95th anniversary of the event. Moscow teams won 10 times, St. Petersburg won 7, and 3 matches were drawn. Total score is 607.5-549.5. Moscow advantage is secured by the matches 2002-2005, which were won by the players from the capital with a great margin, 185-145. This year's match is played on 40 boards - adults', women's, veterans' and children's.

MAGNUS BEATS LUKE IN BLITZ
The match between child prodigy Magnus Carlsen and experienced Luke van Wely, organized by a Dutch bank DSB, ended in Carlsen's favor. After four classical games it was tied 2-2 (each player won once), and proceeded to blitz games. The Norwegian won 3 games and drew one, thus securing the overall victory.

RUSSIAN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
All medalists of the Russian club championships are now determined. Ural (Sverdlovsk region) won the Premier league. TPS (Saransk) also scored 17 team points out of 22, but Ural marginally outscored them on individual points (38 vs. 37.5). Last year's Russian and European championships, Tomsk-400 took the bronze with 16 points. AVS from Krasnoturinsk won the women's event. We apologize for mistakenly calling it ABC, which turned out to be a Russian spelling. This team scored 21 out of 22. South Ural from Cheliabinsk defeated FINEC from St. Petersburg in the final round, tying with our team for the 2nd place and outscoring them on individual points (30.5 vs. 29.5). South Ural wins the silver, St. Petersburg wins the bronze.

RUSSIAN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Russian junior championship is over. Uniline from Samara took the gold with 16 team points out of 18. Two teams from Yerevan, Chess Academy and Mika, share the 2nd with 14 points each. In their individual encounter in the last round Mika defeated Chess Academy, thus enabling the Russian team taking the first place. Three winners of the competition will travel to Hungary for the continental championship at Kirsan Ilyumzhinov's expense. St. Petersburg teams showed the following results: Chigorin Club 10, Intellectual games 9, St. Petersburg CF 8. Best individual scores of the players from our city: Bodnaruk 7/9, Gaprindashvili 6/7 (both played for St. Petersburg CF), Sichinava (IG) 6/8, Linchevsky 6/8, Shimanov 7/9, Korchagina 6/8 (all from Chigorin Club).

TOPALOV DULY WINS CHESS OSCAR 2005
Veselin Topalov won the journalist voting for the Chess Oscar 2005, offered by the Russian magazine 64-Chess Review. He was followed by 2.Anand, 3.Aronian, 4.Svidler, 5.Leko, 6.Morozevich, 7.Kasparov, 8.Ivanchuk, 9.Ponomariov, 10.Carlsen. The chief editor of the 64 Alexander Roshal will award Topalov with the prize on May 10 in Sofia. Chess Oscar was introduced in 1968. Only 8 players had won it to date: Kasparov - 11 times, Karpov - 9, Anand - 4, Fischer - 3, Spassky - 2, Korchnoi, Kramnik and Topalov - 1. In 1968-88 it was awarded by the Spanish-based International Association of Writing Press (AIPE), and after a 6-year break the priveledge passed to the 64.
