The results of the Premier league 7th round : Yunost Moskvy – TPS 3.5:2.5, Shatar - Ladya 3:3, Ural - Elara 3:3, Youzhny Ural – Polytekhnik 3:3, Economist-SGSEU - Tomsk-400 2:4. The standings are: Tomsk-400 14, Ural 12, Economist-SGSEU, Elara, Yunost Moskvy – 9 points each, TPS 5, Ladya and Youzhny Ural – 4 points each, Shatar 3, Polytekhnik 1. Both St.Petersburg teams drew their 7th round matches in the Superior league: FINEK against BelGU-OshShK and Chigorin Club against Rosneft from Smolensk. The results of the 1st round in the ladies’ final eight: Ladya - RGSU 2:2, Economist-SGSEU-1- FINEK-1 1:3, ABC – Akademia 2.5:1.5, Petrodom - Youzhny Ural 1.5:2.5. The standings are: Ladya and Youzhny Ural –6 points both, ABC and FINEK-1 – 5 points each, Akademia, Economist-SGSEU-1 - 4 points each, RGSU 2, Petrodom 0. In the ladies’ tournament for the places from 9th to 14th Chigorin Club defeated Polytekhnik 3.5:0.5 and FINEK-2 lost to Izhstal 1:3. The children team of St. Petersburg Chigorin Club won another match against Rus TsFO 3.5:0.5 and is about to become champions. Tomorrow is a day-off in the Premier league.

08.05.2007 M-TEL MASTERS IN SOFIA
Tomorrow the third M-Tel Masters tournament will start in Sofia. This time among the participants are V.Topalov, L.-D. Nisipeanu, G.Kamsky, Sh. Mamedyarov, M. Adams and K.Sasikiran. The opponents will play two rounds according to “Sofia rules” with following time control: 2 hours for 40 moves, 1 hour for 20 moves and half an our for each player until some result is arrived at. After summing up the results of our experts’ voting on the best game of 2006 the winner is the game Topalov – Aronian played in last year’s Wijk aan Zee. Veselin Topalov wins second time in a row – he has played the best game of 2005 against V.Anand in Sofia. In the near future we will publish on our site a full report on determining the “Game of the Year” written by IM Maksim Notkin.

In Ostrava (Czech Republic) a traditional (since 1993) chess festival is coming to the end. In the two-round tournament of four GMs of FIDE 16th category the winner was M.Krasenkow with 4.5 points out of 6. S.Movsesian scored a point less, Z.Hracek – two points less, and V.Laznicka has 1.5 points.

On May 19 in Kazan on the premises of the Central Sports Olympic Reserve Chess School for Children and Youth named after R.G.Nezhmetdinov there will be held the 11th rapid chess (15 minutes for a game for every player) tournament for school teams. These tournaments are traditionally organized by Vice-champion of the World WGM Alisa Galliamova. In every team’s lineup there are 4 boys and 1 girl, who must study at the same general educational institution. You can see the details from the Statutes given in the reference.
