It's been less than a week since Ilyumzhinov opened his elections campaign site, and there are already more than 50 chess federation of different countries express their full faith in the surrent FIDE president. Kirsan Nikolaevich celebrates his 44th birthday today, and we congratulate him. It seems coming FIDE elections will not bring any surprises, and Ilyumzhinov's mandate will be duly extended.

05.04.2006 TOPALOV AND NISIPEANU JOIN THE EU
World champion Topalov and European champion Nisipeanu meet in the match dedicated to Bulgaria and Romanian joining the EU in 2007. The games will be played on April 6-9. Romanian president Traian Basescu is to make the first move in the first game.

03.04.2006 Moscow championships
Having defeated Amonatov in the last round 'on demand', Alexander Riazantsev scored 4/6, catching up with Dmitry Jakovenko and Sergey Grigoriants, and surpassing them on a tiebreak. Thus Riazantsev became the champion of Moscow. Dmitry received the silver, Sergey got the bronze. The results of the women's tournament are not updated at the official website.

03.04.2006 Children's chess in St. Petersburg
Traditional tournament named after Honored Trainer of USSR Vladimir Zak took place during the spring school break. In the team tournament of boys born not earlier than 1997, the Kirovsky district children's center took the first place, the chess section of the Special Junior Sports School of Olympic Reserve finished second, and the Junior Sports School 2 came third. There were 28 teams with 4 players each. In the tournament of boys under 11, the chess section of the Special Junior Sports School of Olympic Reserve finished first, the Junior Sports School 2 fisnihed second, and another team from the Special Junior Sports School of Olympic Reserve took the third place. Daniil Kuptaraev won in the tournament of candidate master and 1st category players (74 participants), and Alexey Ivanov came off first in the rated tournament (70 players). At the same time, the Kirovsky district hosted the under-8 city championships. Katya Evdokimova from Vassilevsky Ostrov district became an undisputed winner among girls, Tanya Elizarova (CS of SJSSOR) came off second, and Mira Shuvalova (Central district) fisnihed third. Sonya Toporkova won the special prize for 7-year-olds. Danila Puz'ko (Frunzensky district) won the boys' competition, Pavel Malyshev (CS of SJSSOR) was behind him, and Marik Emdin (Admiralteisky district) finished third. Nikita Shitikov (CS of SJSSOR) was best among 7-year-olds.
