34 children teams mostly of Asian countries took part in the event held in Singapore, August 4th to 12th. The three medal winners are: India, Hungary and Philippines all having finished with 16 match points of 20. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov made a speech at the closing ceremony of the Olympiad.

The largest rapid chess and Chess960 festival has started today in Mainz, Germany. The main events are Chess960 Rapid (Aug 14-16) and Rapid Chess (Aug 17-19) world championships. The excellent four will fight for both titles: V.Anand, L.Aronian, E.Bacrot and R.Kasimdzhanov. Various open tournaments will take place also.

Viktorija Cmilyte LTU 2467 became the European rapid chess champion. The competition took place in Predeal, Romania, on August 8th-9th. Cmilyte scored 7 of 9 as well as silver an bronze medallists Anna Muzychuk SLO 2456 and Sopio Gvetadze GEO 2371. 52 chessplayers of 9 countries participated in the tournament. Today the Blitz Championship is taking place.
