After 5 rounds in the boys’ tournament I.Popov is leading with 4.5 points. I.Lysyj has 3.5, A.Lanin and N.Vitiugov are on 3. In the girls’ tournament V.Gunina is clear first with 4 points out of 5. T.Airapetian, B.Kovanova and V.Tarasova have half a point less. A.Shlakich scored only 1 point.

The participants are the “veterans” A.Dreev, S.Rublevsky, V.Bologan and A.Onischuk and the “debutants” the Russian Champion E.Alekseev of Petersburg, D.Jakovenko, E.Sutovsky, V.Tkachiev, A.Istratescu and Zhang Penxiang. The arrival of A.Karpov and the FIDE President K.Iljumzhinov is expected at the end of the tournament (March 23-25).

In the final, 14th round P.Leko beat M.Carlsen, A.Morozevich beat P.Svidler, the games V.Topalov – L.Aronian and V.Ivanchuk – V.Anand were drawn. Anand won the event scoring 8.5 points the rest places are as follows: 2-3. Carlsen and Morozevich – 7.5, 4-5. Aronian and Svidler – 7, 6. Ivanchuk – 6.5, 7-8. Leko and Topalov – 6.

11.03.2007 I.SUDAKOVA WON IN RIJEKA
The traditional tournament “Mediterranean Flower” in Croatia ended in a victory for the Saint Petersburg WGM Irina Sudakova who scored 7 points out of 9. Elena Boric of Bosnia took second place with 6.5 points making GM norm. Third place was taken by WGM Martha Fierro Baquero of Ecuador. She scored 6 points.

In the end the best total 7 points out of 9 was scored by 6 players – Wang Yue, E.Miroshnichenko, V.Gashimov, D.Arutinian, Y.Drozdovskij and our V.Yemelin. These are their standings according to tie-breaks. S.Ionov scored 6.5 points entering the group of players that shared the places 7-33 while E.Ovod with 5.5 points tied for 74-154 places.

Today in Karelia Hotel at 15:00 the all play all Boys’ and Girls’ (Under 20) Russian Championships will start. There are 12 competitors in each tournament. Petersburg is represented by N.Vitiugov (he got the last 12th number after drawing of lots), A.Lanin and A.Shlakich. The competition will finished on March 21st.
