City championships for elder boys and girls have finished yesterday. New champions are: Artyom Zubritskiy (boys under 18), Anna Shlakich (G18) and WFM Anastasia Sorokina (G16). Our congratulations!

13.10.2007 1st European Championship under 8
38 boys and 23 girls under 8 years of 9 countries (most of them of Georgia) take part in the 1st European U8 Championship that started today in Batumi, Adjaria. The competition will be held in Batumi for the next three years.

13.10.2007 3rd Arctic Cup for children
The 3rd children's team tournament is being held in Salekhard, Russia, October 8th to 18th. The event is a round robin with 12 teams (5 boards): India, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovakia and 8 teams of Russian regions. Teams of Tyumen and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District lead on 8 of 8 match points after four rounds.

11.10.2007 International Chess Academy in Tbilisi
The 3rd (after Germany and Singapore) International Chess Academy was opened in the capital of Georgia. Repeated world champion Nona Gaprindashvili and FIDE vice-president Zurab Azmaiparashvili took part in the ceremony. The academy will prepare trainers as well as chessplayers.

The event to start tomorrow in Hoogeveen NED includes several competitions: a Crown Group, an Essent Open, an Amateur Tournament and a Youth Tournament. The Crown Group will be a 17th category double round robin with four grandmasters: Sh. Mamedyarov AZE 2752, R.Ponomariov UKR 2705, L. van Wely NED 2680 and Z.Andriasian ARM 2546.

10.10.2007 EXPOSITION CHESS MATCH
On October 11th GMs Nikita Vitiugov (St. Petersburg) 2594 and Sergey Grigoriants (Moscow) 2591 will play a test distance match of so-called exposition chess. Briefly, the rules are as follows: 1) Partners alternatively expose their pieces onto the empty board to arbitrary squares in ranks 1 and 2 (7 and 8 for Black) in the following order: Q, R, R, B, B, N, N; 2) Then they expose pawns to every file in front of their pieces in ranks 2 and 3 (5 and 6), and at last the kings; 3) Then the game itself will begin according to the normal laws of chess. Ural RUS (T.Radjabov, A.Shirov, A.Grischuk, V.Akopian, V.Malakhov, A.Dreev) scored 12(31), Tomsk-400 RUS (A.Morozevich, D.Jakovenko, S.Karjakin, R.Kasimdzhanov, E.Inarkiev, V.Tkachiev, V.Bologan, P.Smirnov) 11(29). Baden-Baden (with P.Svidler) was the 4th, Economist Saratov (with E.Alekseev) is on the 6th place.
