Championships of Russia for senior men and women are taking place in Moscow Region. After 6 rounds GM V.Tseshkovsky leads in Men's Higher League (a round robin tournament) on 5/6, GM E.Vasiukov scored 4.5, IM A.Zakharov 4. IM V.Karasev and FM N.Mishuchkov are the leaders in the 1st League (Swiss). In the women section WGMs L.Saunina and E.Fatalibekova have 4.5/6.

GM Ahmed Adly of Egypt beat G.Meier in the last round and won the gold medal on 10/13. The silver medalist is GM Ivan Popov of Russia (9.5). GM Wang Hao of China won the bronze medal on tie-break with GM Dmitry Andreikin RUS (9). WIM Vera Nebolsina of Russia became the Girl World Champion (10/13), WGM Jolanta Zawadzka of Poland and WGM Salome Melia of Georgia are the sivler and bronze medalists (9.5 both). IM Elena Tairova RUS left fourth with 9 points.

Three questions after Mexico After the World Championship in Mexico City was over, we asked famous trainers and grandmasters of different generations to answer three questions: 1. Will you please comment on the results of the Mexican tournament? 2. What would you expect of the match Anand – Kramnik? 3. Would you say some words about development of chess in Russia and in the world? On October 13th we published answers by famous trainers. Federal Agency on Physical Culture and Sports investigated mass scale of various sports in Russia. All who are attending sports schools, sections and clubs were taken into account, i.e. officially registered sportsmen. It turned out that more than 13,640 thousand people are going in for sports, the most popular being football (1,532 thousand). Chess is at the eighth place – 406 thousand.
