06.12.2006 IN MEMORY OF DAVID BRONSTEIN (1924-2006)
The prominent, bright and original chessplayer and thinker David Ionovich Bronstein died yesterday. He played the World Championship match against Botvinnik in 1951 (12-12). He was the USSR Champion in 1948 and 1949, the winner of four Chess Olympiads (1952-1958) and many tournaments. Bronstein is also famous as a brilliant chess writer. His “International Grandmaster Tournament” about the Candidate Tournament in Zurich 1953 is one of the best books ever written. Memory of David Ionovich will live on as long as people play chess.

05.12.2006 In memory of I.N.Aizenstadt (1919-2006)
Today Isaac Naumovich Aizenstadt passed away. He was the Technological University professor, Doctor of Chemistry, chess master, the participant of six city championships. We present our condolences to his family and friends.

The Asian Games take place in Doha. The rapid chess tournaments were dominated by Humpy Koneru of India and Murtas Kazhgaleyev of Kazakhstan who scored 8 points out of 9 and 7.5 points out of 9 respectively. There were 17 players in the men’s event and 6 players in the women’s. The team competitions start today

Armenian Minister of Defence and the Security Council Secretary Serge Sarkisian has been reelected President of the Armenian Chess Federation until the end of 2008. We can congratulate the Armenian chessplayers as they owe many of their recent great results to the overall support from the President.

05.12.2006 JOEL LAUTIER’S CAREERS
The well-known grandmaster Joel Lautier announced the end of his professional chess career. He has removed to Moscow. Being excellent Russian speaker Lautier will lead the French representative office of the Russian consulting company “Strategica”. Lautier is also known as the first President of the Association of Chess Professionals. He was at the head of this organization until the beginning of this year.
