Russian Women’s Superfinal
In the first round of the Women’s Russian Championship Superfinal that is being held in Gorodets, Bodnaruk nicely checkmated Gunina, Galliamova beat Zaiatz, Shadrina beat Komiagina and Korbut beat N.Kosintseva. The games Kovalevskaya – Matveeva and T.Kosintseva – Tairova ended in draws. The second round is played tomorrow

The Superfinal of the 2006 Women’s Russian Championship starts today in Gorodets. Here are the results of drawing of lots.
1. T.Shadrina, 2. A.Galliamova, 3. E.Kovalevskaya, 4. E.Korbut, 5. T.Kosintseva, 6. A.Bodnaruk, 7. V.Gunina, 8. E.Tairova, 9. N.Kosintseva, 10. S.Matveeva, 11. E.Zaiatz, 12. M.Komiagina. Worthy of notice is the absence of last year’s winner A.Kosteniuk. The games of the first round start at 15:00. Capablanca Memorial
The 41st Capablanca Memorial ended up with Vasily Ivanchuk’s victory. The Ukrainian scored 6.5 points out of 10 half a point more than Evgeny Bareev. The Russian scored 4.5 out of 5 in the second lap! They two won 8 games (4 wins each) while only two wins fell to the share of other participants. The Polish Miton scored 5 points, the Cubans have left at the bottom of the table: Dominguez – 4.5, Bruzon and Nogueiras – 4. The Cuban GM W.Arencibia won the Open tournament with 7.5 out of 9. His compatriot F.Corrales scored the same number of points. E.Iturrizaga of Venezuela took the third place with 7 points.

LXXI Spanish Championship
The Spanish championship has finished in Leon. In the final match F.Vallejo Pons defeated G.del Rio Angelis 1.5-0.5. At the start there were two preliminary 6 player groups. Two winners of each one entered the semifinals. Apart from Vallejo well-known player M.Illescas took part in the championship.

Money for the rematch Kramnik – Topalov is collected
The manager S.Danailov informed the Bulgarian newspaper “Diary” that the prize fund is collected for holding the rematch Kramnik – Topalov in April 2007 in Sofia. The total of estimated expenses is 2 million dollars. The winner receives 1 million, the loser 0.5 million, FIDE gets 300 thousand, the rest is to be paid in tax. Silvio’s general idea is as follows: Kramnik will reject the challenge and then it will be possible to deprive him of the title. The manager didn’t reveal the names of the sponsors promising to do it in case the challenge is accepted.
