On Friday, December 8 the Gosduma has ratified the International Convention against Doping in Sport which had been passed at the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, on 19th October 2005. A total sum of 60 million roubles is invested in the 2007 federal budget of Russia for the doping control. Yearly 10,000 sportsmen will be tested. It is unknown whether chessplayers will be among them but the forbidden medications that stimulate the muscle bulk growing surely have no concern to our game. Meanwhile there are medications that influence the brain activity.

The final round hasn’t determined the winner of the title. Both leaders drew their games: Alekseev against Nepomniachtchi and Jakovenko against Grigoriants. The games Svidler – Vitiugov, Tomashevsky – Khairullin and Khismatullin – Rublevsky were drawn as well. Inarkiev beat Najer. Final standings: 1-2. Alekseev, Jakovenko – 7.5, 3. Inarkiev – 7, 4. The International Master, the 1947 Champion of RSFSR Nikolay Aleksandrovich Novotelnov is celebrating his 95th birthday. He played in the USSR Championship in 1951 and in five Leningrad Championships. He was the leader after 6 rounds in the 1941 Championship which wasn’t terminated because of the Leningrad blockade.
