S.Klimov.Supertournament in Wijk-an-Zee.1-6 rounds
The tournament in Wijk-an-Zee surprises by character of struggle that is not usual for super tournaments of the last several years.
Firstly, the opening fashion again changed - this time in direction of more sharp and "less drawn" Sicilian defence.
Secondly, many of the participants turned out to be out of form. Among them there are the challengers for a win. Thus, already at the start the evident favourites - Kramnik and Anand - lost one game each.
All that led to greater effectiveness and certainly to greater interest of spectators in the competition.
In the proposed review you can find the most interesting and important games of the first half of the tournament.
Among them are the examples of sacrifice of a pawn for an initiative in the Sicilian defence (Topalov - Ponomariov, Ponomariov - Polgar), above mentioned losses of the champions (Kramnik - Topalov, Anand - Leko), contenders for a formal prize "for the best game" Kramnik - Sokolov, Leko - Svidler, Adams - Toplav, the most "creative" game of the tournament Morozevich - Anand and other examples of the struggle.

PEN OF A WUNDERKIND: 14 years old A.MOROZEVICH
Today we are starting a new column, in which we are going to publish first analytical attempts, "tests of the pen" of chess wunderkinds - both of those, who have already grown up and become famous, and of those, who are only going to do that. We invite our luminaries to rummage in the dusty chests, to take out school writing-books with comments and to send them to us. We also count on the help of coaches and teachers of the giants of thought. Young geniuses! Please, don't hesitate to tell us about your working on chess! Great Botvinnik said: there is nothing more useful for professional development of a chess player than commenting of games (it doesn't matter whether of his own or of someone else) with subsequent publication of analyses. You may keep your opening secrets, let it be so, but let us now your train of thought and estimation of a position! We hope that meticulous readers will pull to pieces your variants and will write us about all the noticed howlers with pleasure. And you will then conclude, to what of your drawbacks it's necessary to pay attention first of all. Readers and writers, dear friends of all ages! We count on your help and want to make the new column interesting and instructive for everybody. Let's wish success to each other! The first material in the new column was prepared by the author of the idea - IM Vladimir Barsky. Read the article in the section "Creativity" in Russian.
