P.Svidler is in the St. Petersburg top ten!
The St. Petersburg Sports Committee published the top ten of the best sportsmen of the city according to the results of year 2005. Peter Svidler is one of them, as he distinguished himself in the personal and team world championships. The list is arranged in alphabetical order. It is curious that neither Nikolai Valuev, the new WBA heavyweight champion, nor the players of Zenit St. Petersburg were included in the top ten.

FIDE candidates list
FIDE published the full list of the players that have right to take part in the candidates matches, which will define four participants of the World Championship (let us remind you that other four participants are already known: V.Topalov, V.Anand, P.Svidler, A.Morozevich). According to the average rating (last list of 2004 and first list 2005) the following players have right to take part in it: G.Kasparov, V.Kramnik, P.Leko, M.Adams and J.Polgar (those who reject will be substituted by A.Shirov, E.Bacrot, V.Ivanchuk), the FIDE ex-world champion R.Kasimjanov and the top-finishers of the World Cup: L.Aronian, R.Ponomariov, E.Bacrot, A.Grischuk, E.Bareev, B.Gelfand, S.Rublevsky, M.Gurevich, G.Kamsky and M.Carlsen (V.Malakhov and F.Vallejo being in the reserve). So, all the participants of the San Luis tournament are still in business.

Since in April, 2004, "e3e5" exists as an independent chess resource.
