Tigran Petrosian and Evgeny Bareev become the March laureates
March was tough. It creative potential was significantly lower than usually, and in April all the experts moved to Sochi, and I could not conduct the voting in time. So I would like to express my gratitude to those who found the time and took part in the voting. The family did not fell apart!
There were 8 judges to evaluate 16 games: Ekaterina Kovalevskaya, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Michal Krasenkow, Ilya Odessky, Andrey Deviatkin, Nikita Vitiugov, Vladimir Potkin and Sergey Ivanov .
Only three games had real chances to succeed. Like in February, I have to annouce not one but two winners of the contest: Tigran Petrosian and Evgeny Bareev. The game Petrosian-Minasian from the Armenian championship collected 1 first place (Deviatkin), 2 second and 3 third places. The game Bareev-Onischuk, the only game from Poikovsky to enter the contest, had 2 first places (Vitiugov, Kovalevskaya), 2 second and 1 third place.
Vassily Ivanchuk's blinfold win over Luke van Wely is also among the leaders with 2 first places (Ivanov, Kosteniuk) and 2 second places.
The applause becomes less loud as we proceed further. Radjabov-Svidler is on the 4th overall spot: it earned the highest praise from Ilya Odessky and a second place. The USA champion's encounter Onischuk-Florean enchanted Potkin and Krasenkow (2 first places), but did not impress other experts - the 5th overall.
Here are other games from the top 10: 6) Radzievic-Kononenko (1 third place), 7) Aronian-Morozevich (1 third), 8) Aronian-Topalov (1 third), 9) Svidler-Nielsen, 10) Williams-Ivanisevic.
Soon we will publish the analytical review, and now I will take care of the April games, which should provide us with many high quality examples
