A bus with the letter «Ш» (Шахматы is Russian word for Chess) will run between the Moscow Exhibition Centre and the “Botanic Garden” metro where the Moscow Social University is located which is the venue of the International Chess Festival Moscow Open2007 organized by the Moscow Chess Federation from January 27th to February 4th. The organizers are planning to host 800 players. The total prize fund is 1,500,000 rubles.

In Wijk aan Zee the foundation of Grand Slam Chess Association was announced which joins the efforts of the tournament organizers in Wijk aan Zee, Linares, Sofia and Bilbao into one pool in order to make a total calculation for players’ performances in major events starting from 2008. According to those who are joining the winner of Grand Slam may count on the 300,000 euro prize.

The Armenian Championships take place in Yerevan. 7 rounds have been played. In the men’s tournament Karen Asrian is leading with 5 points. Tigran Kotanjian is half a point behind. Two other Tigrans (Nalbandian and Petrosian) are in the group of players who share the places 3th-6th with 4 points. In the women’s event the leading trio is comprised of Nelli Aginian, Siranush Andriasian and Liana Agabekian. They all score 5 points.
