19.01.2007 RUBLES OR DOLLARS?
Today in Yugra an agreement was signed about the organization of the 2007 and 2009 World Cups and the 2010 Chess Olympiad in Khanty Mansyisk. Regarding the next World Cup in 2007 it is reported that it will be held in November with the participation of 128 players and the total prize fund of 1,600,000… rubles, 100000 of which go to the winner of the Cup. We’d like to believe that the matter concerns dollars nevertheless.

As soon as FIDE rejected the Bulgarian challenge for the rematch Kramnik – Topalov (the guarantees were sent from the bank that isn’t included in the list of those the international organization works with) another suggestion on the World Championship rules came in. Its essence is extremely simple: any 2750-plus player who has a money bag has a right to challenge the World Champion yearly and the latter doesn’t dare to refuse.
