Pardubice chess festival
Russian Stanislav Novikov won the main tournament of the traditional chess festival in Pardubice, Czech Republic. He scored 7.5 poitns in 9 games. Three Russian players joined the group with 7 points - Tomashevsky, Potkin and Smykovsky. Sergey Klimov showed the best result among St. Petersburg players - 6.5 points. Alas, the tournament was saddened by a tragic death of 19-year-old Brittish player Jessie Gilbert, who fell out of the hotel window.

There are only two rounds left to play in Krasnoturinsk. Lahno and Zhu Chen lead with 5.5/7, Mkrtchian is on the 3rd place with 4 points. Nadezhda Kosintseva, Stefanova, Chiburdanidze and Cmilyte all have 3.5, Hou Yifan has 2.5, Matveeva has 2, and Tatiana Kosintseva only collected a point and a half.

Kasparov returns to play rapid chess
On August, 22, Garry Kasparov will play his first game of chess (although rapid) since Linares 2005, meeting Anatoly Karpov, Victor Korchnoi and Judit Polgar in Lichthof Chess Champions Day in Zurich. Kasparov had said the retirement does not mean he is going to abandon lighter forms of chess, so there is still no clear come-back from the world's greatest chess player. However, it's a good news.

Biel Chess Festival
Alexander Morozevich continued his winning streak, beating Lazaro Bruzon in the round 6. Games Carlsen-Pelletier and Volokitin-Radjabov were drawn. Morozevich leads with 5 points, Radjabov has 4, Carlsen 3.5. Pia Cramling (4.5/6) is half a point ahead of Yelena Dembo in the women's round robin.

An annual tournament starts on Saturday in Dortmund, Germany. This time there are 8 participants, seeded as follows: 1.Adams, 2.Jobava, 3.Leko, 4.Gelfand, 5.Kramnik, 6.Naiditsch, 7.Svidler and Aronian. The schedule of the event: rounds 1-2 - 29th and 30th of July, rounds 3-4 - 1st and 2nd of August, rounds 5-7 - 4th, 5th and 6th of August. All rounds except the last one start at 17.00 Moscow time. The 7th round starts at 15.00.

North Urals Cup 2006
Yesterday women's supertournament started in Krasnoturinsk. Ten chessplayers took part in this tournament, including three world champions. Zhu Chen, who plays for Qatar now, defeated Victoria Cmilyte from Lithuania. Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria) beat Tatiana Kosintseva (Russia). Nadezhda Kosintseva (Russia) turned out to be more successful, having defeated her compatriot Svetlana Matveeva. Lilit Mkrtchian (Armenia) made a draw with legendary Maia Chiburdanidze (Georgia). Young Hou Yifan (China) also made a draw with Kateryna Lahno (Ukraine).

Chess Festival in Biel
Traditional chess festival that consists of two round robin tournaments will start in Biel on July, 22. Morozevich, Radjabov, Carlsen, Bruzon, Volokitin and Pelletier will play in the men's tournament. Skripchenko, Atalik, Socko, Dembo, Muzychuk and Cramling will participate in the women's tournament. The competitions will last till the 4th of August.
