13.10.2006 Vladimir Kramnik is the Champion by all of the versions!

Summary by Vassily Yemelin:

Having gained a victory on a tie-break of rapid games with the score 2,5-1,5, Vladimir Kramnik won the Unification match and became a World champion by all of the known versions. The results is by far the deserved one, because Vladimir proved his superiority namely and exactly at the board not only in a tie-break, but also in the 11 games actually played if we dispence with a point simply added to Topalov's score due to insidious craftyness and unscrupulousness of the near-chess figures.

In terms of chess the opponents matched each other. Topalov enriched the chess-world with a spectrum of new opening ideas and proved his advantage in complicated positions, in a skill of maintaing the tension on the board. Vladimir Kramnik in his turn over and over again kept on proving his superioruty on his opponent in manouevering fight and technical aspects of the game. The course of several games was distorted by Topalov's unexplaineable errors, let the reasons of them be quizzed by specialists. We should add also to Kramnik's assets incredible self-possession that allowed him to break the unfavourable form both psychological and chess sides course of the events in the second part of the match. We congratulate the Russian with his victory.
