V.Anand took revenge on L.Aronian in rapid chess 2.5-1.5 and won the World Champion title. R.Kasimdzhanov and E.Bacro drew their match for the 3rd place, tie-break has non been played. D.Navara CZE won the open tournament on tie-break having scored 9.5 of 11 as well as M.Mchedlishvili GEO and K.Sasikiran IND. V.Bologan was declared the winner in the combination Chess960 + rapid chess with a total of 18.5.

V.Vorotnikov is 60 today! We congratulate grandmaster Vladislav Vorotnikov with his 60th birthday! He participated in championships of Leningrad 13 times and shared 1st place in 1979 and 1985. We wish him health and happiness!

After 2-2 in the rapid match L.Aronian beat V.Anand 1.5-0.5 in two blitz games and became Chess960 World Champion. E.Bacrot won the match for the 3rd place against R.Kasimdzhanov 3-1. Sh.Mamedyarov, G.Kamsky and Z.Almasi lead on 5/5 after the 1st day of the open tournament.

E.Bacrot and R.Kasimdzhanov will play for the 3rd place. (Results of the double round robin preliminaries: Aronian 4.5/6, Anand 4, Bacrot 2, R.Kasimdzhanov 1.5). The same scheme was used for the Chess960 Computer World Championship, Shredder and Rybka having qualified for tomorrow finale. 280 players are participating in the open tournament headed by V.Ivanchuk, A.
