St. Petersburg Rapid Chess Cup
GM Maxim Novik became the winner of the City Rapid Chess Cup yesterday. In the final match he beat IM Daniil Lintchevski 2-0.

16th Isle of Man International
16th Monarch Assurance international tournament started yesterday in Port Erin, Isle of Man. The event is 9 round Swiss with 86 players, about 40 GMs and WGMs. The top seeds are: M.Krasenkow POL 2660, A.Areshchenko UKR 2645, A.Moiseenko UKR 2641, M.Kobalia RUS 2634, M.Gurevich TUR 2633. The tournament will last till September 30th.

Two champions are known already: IM Sanan Sjugirov RUS (B14) and FM Illya Nyzhnyk UKR (B12) scored 7.5/8 and guaranteed gold medals. Good chances for medals have St. Petersburg players K.Alekseenko (B10) and A.Kiseleva (G10) with 7 points both. A.Styazhkina (G10) and E.Levin (B18) scored 6. Narva 2007
'Baltic Sea Chess Stars' youth festival will be held in Narva, Estonia, on October 7th to 13th. The festival is devoted to great Estonian chessplayer Paul Keres born in Narva. Best players of Baltic countries, Russia, Poland, Sweden and Finland from 10 to 18 years old will compete in a team tournament in Narva Castle. Russia will be presented by St. Petersburg children. Among other events, there will be a simultan exhibition by GM Alexander Khalifman. (The 'Youth of Estonia' newspaper, in Russian).
