A famous jewelry company 'Boodles' founded in 1798 made a chess set costing nearly $10,000,000. Board squares are of white and yellow gold, borders decorated with big diamonds. Pieces of platinum and gold are strewn with 748 brilliants and innumerable emeralds, sapphires and pearls. The company managers Winright brothers are very fond of chess and they believe they could create such chess set which would cause desire to play endlessly. See photos.

27.06.2007 Anatoly Karpov Tests a System
Today the twelfth world champion will play a simultan via internet against ten prisoners in different colonies in remote parts of Russia. The event will serve as a test for the United Automated Information System allowing to hold video conferences with any point in the country. Federal Penitentiary Service plans to educate prisoners and provide virtual medical aid for them by means of the system. (In Russian).

The competition begins today in Kazan, teams of federal districts playing two rounds a day. Moscow team headed by GM Ian Nepomniachtchi and IM Elena Tairova is clearly the strongest. St. Petersburg team includes M.Matlakov, IM A.Shimanov, IM E.Gorovykh, A.Goganov, A.Shlakich and V.Korchagina.

24.06.2007 FIDE Presidential Board in Tallinn
FIDE official site has published the Presidential Board's decision concerning the New World Championship Cycle. Its main features are as follows: Topalov will not play in Mexico; he will have an eight-game Challenger Match against the winner of the 2007 World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, and Kramnik will play a match against the winner of the WCCh tournament in Mexico City 2007. The winners of the two matches will play for the world title. If Kramnik wins in Mexico, he will play a match against Topalov in 2008. In that case, the winner of the Kramnik - Topalov match will play against the winner of the 2007 World Cup.
