03.02.2007 FIDE MOVES TO IOC PLACE
Yesterday in Geneva an agreement was achieved between the Presidents of IOC and FIDE about moving the headquarters of the International Chess Federation to the IOC building in Lausanne already in March. J.Rogge and K.Iljumzhinov considered the possibility of including chess into the program of the Olympic Games and other questions concerning the IOC and FIDE collaboration.

The tournaments FINEC 2007 have finished. In the event with GM norm the top places were taken by S.Mikhailovsky – 6 points, A.Kim and Y.Tihonov – 5.5 (out of 9). The winner together with E.Gorovikh scored the IM norm. In the event with WGM norm V.Kirillova took first place with 6.5 points scoring WIM norm, V.Golubenko and T.Kostiuk are on 5 points (out of 9). In the event with IM norm D.Lintchevsky scored 7 points, M.Zakurdaev and I.Sudakova – 6 (out of 10).

02.02.2007 URAL CHESS ACADEMY
The Ural Chess Academy is being found in Ekaterinburg under the patronage of the Governor E.Rossel. The FIDE President K.Iljumzhinov had part in this event. During his visit he presented 1000 chess sets for different centers of the Sverdlovsk region and suggested opening the Chess Academy.

02.02.2007 DANAILOV: “LET’S CREATE AN ALTERNATIVE TO FIDE”
The former World Champion Veselin Topalov’s manager Silvio Danailov in an interview to the “Standard” daily proclaimed the creation of an organization alternative to the International Chess Federation (FIDE). He noted that the creation of yet another chess federation is the only chance to fight against the totalitarian dictatorship. It is known that FIDE despite not denying Topalov’s right to organize the rematch for the world chess crown in fact left it to the Bulgarian side’s own resources to negotiate with the World Champion Vladimir Kramnik about the terms of the event which condemns the negotiations to failure.

The FIDE site publishes the list of players who were awarded new titles at Presidential Board of the organization that was held in Antalia, Turkey. It includes five players of Saint Petersburg. Nikita Vitiugov has become the International Grandmaster, Alexey Ivanov, Alexey Lanin and Iulia Gromova have become International Masters. Our congratulations!
