AEROFLOT: E.Alekseev of Saint Petersburg has flown in first!
The Russian Champion Evgeny Alekseev of Saint Petersburg has become the winner of A1 tournament of Aeroflot Open scoring 7 points out of 9. Half a point behind are D.Jakovenko and E.Tomashevsky (both of Russia), Wang Yue and Ni Hua (both of China). The final standings should be defined by the number of games with Black (all four has 5 white and 4 black ones), then by the average Elo of the opponents not counting the highest and the lowest. It seems that Tomashevsky takes second place, Jakovenko takes third, Wang Yue takes fourth and Ni Hua takes fifth. Alekseev apart from everything gained the ticket for Dortmund super tournament. Well done! Other Petersburg players have finished as follows: A.Khalifman – 5.5, N.Vitiugov and V.Popov – 4. M.Askarov of Russia won A2 tournament with 7.5 points out of 9. E.Korbut scored 3 points.

The participants of the Saint Petersburg Championship have been defined
The first three places in the semifinal of the 80th Men’s Championship of Saint Petersburg that finished yesterday were taken by Andrey Davydov (7.5 points out of 9), Oleg Biriukov and Mikhail Zakurdaev (both 6.5). They have gained the right to play in the final. Our congratulations!

February, 12 was the 70th anniversary of the inauguration of Leningrad Palace of Pioneers. One of its boasts is the chess club.
