Women's Higher League
The Russian women's Higher league tournament has started in Orel. There are 36 participants, including 12 grandmasters. St. Petersburg is represented by grandmasters Korbut and Sudakova, as well as Malysheva, Soloviova, Bodnaruk and Kirillova. WGM Ovod plays for Leningrad Region. After 9 rounds of play 5 winners advance to the Russian Superfinal. After 2 rounds Sudakova scored 2/2 and leads togather with Tairova. Korbut has 1.5, Bodnaruk, Kirillova and Ovod have 1 point, Malysheva and Soloviova have none.

The participants have crossed the halfway mark yesterday: 5 rounds out of 9 are played. Vitiugov and Matlakov continue leading with 4 points. Brodsky, Khairullin and Mikhailovsky have 3 points.
