The tenth chess festival devoted to the memory of Petr Izmailov will start in Tomsk tomorrow. Six chessplayers: World ex-champions Ponomariov and Kasimdzhanov as well as Morozevich, Rublevsky, Bologan and Karjakin will take part in the rapid tournament that will take place in the context of the festival.

Valentina Gunina (Murmansk), Maria Komiagina (Arkhangelsk), Elena Tairova (Moscow), Ekaterina Korbut (Saint Petersburg) and Anastasia Bodnaruk (Saint Petersburg) advanced to the Russian Superfinal. Our congratulations! Other Saint Petersburg chessplayers showed the following results: 8. Evgenija Ovod, 10. Polina Malysheva – both 5.5, 11. Irina Sudakova, 15. Valentina Soloviova – both 5, 26. Varvara Kirillova - 4.

Bodnaruk (Saint Petersburg), Komiagina (Arkhangelsk) and Gunina (Murmansk) are the leaders with 6 points, Ovod (Leningrad region) scored 5.5, Korbut (Saint Petersburg), Sudakova (Saint Petersburg), Zaiatz (Kazan), Shadrina (Kstovo) and Tairova (Moscow) have 5. These chessplayers claim to the advance to the Russian Superfinal. Malysheva and Soloviova have 4.5 points, Kirillova has 3.

07.07.2006 34th Annual World Open in Philadelphia
More than one and a half thousand of chessplayers took part in the World Open tournament in Philadelphia that was divided into seven tournaments. 237 chessplayers played in the main tournament. There were fifty grandmasters among them. Nine players scored 7 out of 9. As a result, Kamsky took the first place, Ibragimov became silver medal winner, Ehlvest was the third. Milov, Yudasin, Ivanov, Kachieshvili, Wojtkiewicz and Benjamin took places from the fourth to the ninth accordingly.

05.07.2006 VICTORY OF NIKITA VITIUGOV
Student of FINEC Nikita VITIUGOV took the first place in the Cup of his university's rector, having scored 7.5 poitns in 9 games. His result exceeds the grandmaster norm by a full point. GM Brodsky and IM Khairullin shared the 2nd place with 6 points. Maxim Matlakov finished 4th, and his 5.5 is enough for an IM norm. Other players showed the following results: 5. Zagrebelny 4.5, 6-8 Yevseev, Lanin, and Mikhailovsky - all 4, 9. Biriukov 2, 10.Truschelev 1.5.

Sergey SHIPOV won the Midnight Sun Chess festival in Norway, scoring 7.5/9. Magnus Carlsen took the second place, Leif Erlend Johanessen was third (both players have 7 points).

The rating tournament ended in a six-way tie with 7 points. The tiebreak brought the following result: 1.Dmitry Egorov, 2.Sergey Sivokho, 3.Alexey Ivanov, 4.Alexey Utkin, 5.Victor Turikov, 6.Vladimir Karasev. Sergey Andreev won the tournament for candidate masters and 1st category players with 7.5/9.
