In the 2nd round Yemelin def. Zakurdaev, Ionov def. Vitiugov, Loginov def. A. Ivanov, Orlov def. Solozhenkin. The games Anisimov-Yevseev and Popov-Alexeev ended peacefully. Grandmaster Yemelin leads with 2 points. GM Ionov, GM Loginov and IM Anisimov have 1.5 points each. Alexeev, Yevseev, Popov, Vitiugov and Orlov have 1 out of 2. Ivanov has half a point, and Zakurdaev and GM Solozhenkin started with two losses.

WOMEN: 1.Ukraine 29.5, 2.Russia 28, 3.China 27.5, 4.USA, 5.Hungary, 6.Georgia, 7.Netherlands - all 24.5, 8.Armenia, 9.Slovenia, 10.Czech Republic - all 24. Russian players showed the following individual results. Men: Kramnik 6.5 / 9, Svidler 5 / 9, Grischuk 6.5 / 11, Morozevich 6 / 8, Bareev 6 / 10, Rublevsky 2 / 5. Only Kramnik gained rating points after this event. Women: Kosteniuk 6 / 10, T.Kosintseva 9.5 / 12, N.Kosintseva 7.5 / 10, Kovalevskaya 5 / 7.

05.06.2006 ARMENIA AND UKRAINE WIN THE OLYMPIAD
The champions in both men's and women's competitions were determined soon after the start of the final round. Both leading teams made quick draws on all boards and secured their overall wins - Armenia in the men's event (Aronian, Akopian, Asrian, Lputian, Sargissian and Minasian), and Ukraine in the women's event (Zhukova, Lahno, Gaponenko and Ushenina).

05.06.2006 KIRSAN ILYUMZHINOV REMAINS FIDE PRESIDENT
The voting at the FIDE General Assembly ended with the following result: Kirsan Ilyumzhinov got 96 votes of the delegates, and his only competitor Bessel Kok got 57. Thus the president of Kalmykia continues ruling the FIDE at least until the end of the first decade of the century.

As usual, my review features games that are not very well known to the Russian-speaking reader. Strangely, the encounter Morozevich-Moiseenko, which won our April contest, also falls under this category. As far as I concerned, it hasn`t been deeply analyzed neither in chess magazines and newspapers nor on the Internet. However, I consider it wrong placing the masterpiece among lighter works. Maybe one of our experts will take the responsibility of discovering all the subtleties of that game. And so far I am pleased to present you a mixture of foreign melodies.

Today is a last day off at the Olympiad, which continues tomorrow with the 11th round. The current standings before the concluding three rounds is: Armenia 29, China 27, RUSSIA and Czech Republic - both 26.5, France 26 (men); Ukraine 23, RUSSIA 22.5, China 20.5, Georgia 20 (women). In the 11th round our men's team meets USA, and our women's team has to play against Georgia.

Russia defeated Ukraine 3-1 in the 10th round: Svidler def. Volokitin, Bareev def. Efimenko, and the games Ivanchuk-Kramnik and Karjakin-Grischuk were drawn. Russia (w) won against Bulgaria 2-1: Stefanova def. Kosteniuk, Tatiana Kosintseva def. Djingarova and Nadezhda Kosintseva def. Velcheva.
