25.11.2006 Vladimir Kramnik vs Deep Fritz. Kramnik starts as White.
The world champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia plays a match against the 10th version of the computer program Deep Fritz. Yesterday in Bonn the press-conference was held in the German's Arts and Exhibition Hall. Today the first game is played. The games start at 17:00 Moscow time on 25, 27, 29 November and 1, 3 and 5 December. 56 moves should be made within 6 hours after which the game may be adjourned to be continued on the next day according to Kramnik’s wish or it can be played to the end. The world champion will be allowed to look at the opening base used by the computer until it begins to make its own moves. An ending with 5 or less pieces won’t be played. The machine would hint whether it should resign or a draw should be agreed or it’s high time for its opponent to quit. The game will be continued if the champion demonstrates that the theory is wrong. The rules have never been so indulgent towards humans! What is it – the excessive self-confidence of the creators or just a cruel reality? We’ll know it soon. In the first game Kramnik got the white pieces. The drawing of lots consisted in the extraction of the smallest matreshka from the hearts of bigger ones. It’s symbolic that it yielded our compatriot the white colour. So today in Bonn the white Kramnik plays the black Fritz. On our site all the games of the match will be annotated in two surveys (three games in each) by the GM Konstantin Sakaev the winner of the 2006 Russian Cup. We provide a link to the official site of the event.
