ANTON SHOMOEV BECOMES THE QUICKEST
A rapid chess tournament within the Chigorin Memorial gathered 126 participants. The best result was shown by Anton Shomoev, Stanislav Novikov and Boris Savchenko - 6 out of 7. The players were placed in this order according to Buchgolz tiebreak score. Denis Yevseev showed the best score among St. Petersburg players, finishing 6th.

CHESS FESTIVAL STARTED IN SAINT PETERSBOURG
Yesterday the blitz tournament to memory of Genrikh Chepukaitis became the first event of Chigorin Memorial. It took place in the entertainment center “Vegas”. 112 chessplayers participated in the tournament. Having scored 9 out of 11, Vladimir Belov managed to take the first place. Both Alexander Lastin and Pavel Maletin collected 8.5 points. Lastin came out second and Maletin finished third. Valery Popov was the best among Saint Petersburg chessplayers. FIRST ACP WORLD RAPID CUP
The First ACP World Rapid Cup will take place from 4-8 2007 in Odessa. The strongest chessplayers who finished among the best in the ACP Tour 2004/2005 such as Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand, Alexander Morozevich, Peter Leko, Levon Aronian, Alexei Shirov and others will participate in this tournament. The total prize fund of the World Rapid Cup provided by the sponsor Bank “Pivdennyi” will make 136 thousands dollars.

TOPALOV INSISTS ON REMATCH!
Veselin Topalov is ready to challenge the World Champion Vladimir Kramnik in March 2007 in Sofia. Bulgarian player’s manager Silvio Danailov announced that he would find 1.5 million dollars as the total prize fund. Moreover, Danailov considers that if Kramnik refuses the rematch, Veselin Topalov will legally obtain the title of the World Champion again. The fact is that the loser of the WCC in Elista doesn’t have the right to participate in the World Championship 2007 in accordance with FIDE regulations.

WORLD U-20 CHAMPIONSHIP
Zaven Andriasian (Armenia) became the winner of Juniors Championship with an excellent result of 9.5 points. Having scored 9 out of 13, Nikita Vitiugov (Russia) became silver medal winner. Yuriy Kryvoruchko (Ukraine) also collected 9 points and took the third place. Levan Pantsulaia (Georgia) came out fourth. Other Russian players took the following places: 5. Frolyanov - 8.5, 10. Khairullin – 8.5, 18. Andreikin 7.5, 25. Geller – 7.5, 32. Grachev – 7, 34. Matsenko – 7, 41. Nechepurenko – 6.5, 54. Tonoian – 6. Four chessplayers managed to collect 9 points out of 13 rounds in the Girls championship. As a result, Sheng Yan (China) became the World Champion. Hou Yifan (China) took the second place, Salome Melia (Georgia) became bronze medal winner and Bathuyag Mongontuul (Mongolia) took the fourth place. Elena Tairova scored 8 points and took the 13th place.

Having scored 12 points, "Tomsk-400" (Morozevich, Jakovenko, Bologan, Tkachiev, Inarkiev, Smirnov, Nepomniachtchi and Belozerov) became the winner of the European Club Cup 2006. Russian teams "Ladya Kazan" and "Ural Sverdlovskaya" also collected 12 points and came out second and third accordingly. "Ashdod City Club" (Israel) took the fourth place and "TPS Saransk" (Russia) became the fifth. "Mika Yerevan" managed to win the women section with an excellent result of 12 points. "Energy-Investi Sakartvelo" (Chiburdanidze, Danielian, Khurtsidze and Aginian) finished the second. Georgian club collected 11 points.
