Letter from the FIDE Deputy President
On the 13th of November 2004 we published at our website IM I.Odessky's article "G.Kasparov's reply" reporting the press-conference in the Moscow Journalists' House, concerning the opening of the super final of the Championship of Russia. Afterwards, on the 16th of November Kasparov's response to the question of our correspondent about the prospects of the match Kasparov-Kasimdzhanov was translated and placed on the website www.chessbase.com (with our weblink). The FIDE Deputy President G.Makropoulos decided to clarify some questions touched upon in the article.

"Portrait of a chess player" is a new project that opens today at our website by an article about Bulgarian GM Veselin Topalov. In the nearest plans are creative portraits of Evgeniy Bareev (it is being prepared by GM Evseev) and of Rustam Kasimdzhanov (his portrait is being painted by GM A.Bezgodov). The column will appear monthly. We suggest our readers' taking part in describing famous chess players from different perspectives of their creativity. For that purpose we will add a section "Touches to a portrait", in which we will publish Your materials.
